United Utilities begins £2.9m upgrade to Hartford's water pipes
A £2.9m project to upgrade nearly 11km of water network in the Hartford area of Cheshire is underway.
The three-month project will see United Utilities replacing the water mains in the area with new pipes that are designed to protect against bursts and leaks improving the resilience of the network.
It is part of United Utilities’ plans to upgrade around 925km of water mains across the North West before 2030. More than 159km of these will be in Cheshire.
Temporary traffic management and signed diversion routes will be in place while work is carried out with access maintained for residents.
The water company has also made a £1500 donation to Hartford Press On Run Club – where all money raised goes directly to Hartford School, due to works taking place close by.
United Utilities has notified customers in the area to let them know about the work.
Rob Moore, County Business Lead for Water in Cheshire at United Utilities explained: “In Cheshire we’re investing £55m between now and 2030 to help reduce leaks and keep water flowing through customers' taps. To do this we are upgrading more than 159km of water mains with new more durable, flexible pipes that are built to withstand high pressure and temperature variations. The work in Hartford is a key part of that programme and showcases our commitment to providing customers with the highest quality of drinking water.
“We're grateful to our customers for their patience while we upgrade the network.”
