What is the difference between a foul sewer and a surface water sewer?

Foul sewers carry wastewater from toilets, sinks, baths, showers, washing machines and dishwashers to our sewage works for treatment. Whereas a surface water sewer carries uncontaminated rainwater to a stream, river or soak away.
